WENDY MILLER – KENSAL GREEN
“ My sister went to Sainsbury’s in Haringay. She tied her dog up outside as usual. When she came out Belle was gone. It was awful. No one had seen a thing. The next day she got a phone call asking for £150 ransom money for her return. The man asked where her bank was and said he would meet her there. She handed over the money in broad daylight as if buying something at a market stall. Belle is an old Labrador cross, certainly no use to breeders. Some bright spark has obviously realised how much we love our dogs and that there is a trade of sorts to be had - we would all pay to get our dogs back.”

ZOE BRAN - WILLESDEN
“When my dog Arlu was 8 months old a friend of mine took her out and left her tied up outside a shop on Harlesden High Street. Arlu wasn’t there when she came out. That was a Tuesday – I cried all night. Much chaos followed - I contacted everyone I could think of.
All the dog shelters and vets in the area in case she had been handed in. But nothing. I put up posters. Late Saturday night I got a phone call from a man saying “... your dog is in the RSPCA Hospital in Finsbury Park. She’s injured her leg.” I rang them and they were able to identify her from her microchip number. They did not know how she had hurt her leg (all the skin on the inside of her left foreleg was torn) but told me a very drunk Scottish man had called Medivet on Friday night. He had claimed she was his dog called Lucy, though she did not have any identification tags on. He called back several times to check on her but when he was told it would cost him £100 in hospital fees he called me, for which I suppose I should be grateful. It is hard not to be angry. Not surprisingly she was very traumatised, being a timid dog in the first place. It was a night mare, I have not let her out of my sight since. I would not wish that experience on anyone.”
