Dog Theft Deterrents
wwwwww
Micro-chipping, tattooing and DNA sampling, can prove ownership of lost or stolen pets once they have been found, but they can not actively guard against, or prevent theft.

Micro chipping, - currently the most popular form of pet identification, has recently been criticised over compatibility of scanning equipment to the many types of chip available, the result being that microchips are not being read efficiently. A further complication has arisen due to the possibility that the chip may migrate around the pet’s body meaning that unless the whole body is scanned the chip could again be missed.

Tattooing is a popular alternative and when placed prominently on the ear, has the added benefit of
acting as a visual theft deterrent. However tattoos can be masked, altered or removed.

DNA Sampling, is a process preferred by breeders as a means of establishing progeny. The DNA code from a simple swab of saliva from your pet is read and filed in a remote location where it cannot be tampered with in any way. Proof of ownership is proved by matching this code. However, unless the cost of the second DNA test to prove ownership is included in the original price, it can be very expensive.

NOTE .. Petloc™ offers theft prevention.
